Question to Yvonne, re: alcohol - 2008/10/10 05:54 Hi Yvonne how’s things on your site, hope good!

I have a question for you regarding cooking with alcohol. How come that generally people don’t recommend serving food to kids that contains alcohol like wine or spirit/liquor in cakes? As fares I know the alcohol will disappear after awhile but creates a nice flavour. Perhaps the concern is that the flavour of wine or spirit could encourage kids to taste the real thing? I grow up with food cooked with alcohol; nearly every meat dish wine was used or spirit/liquor in cakes. I can’t say that it done me any harm, and I only drink a couple glasses of wine like on my birthday if at all.

i totally agree with you,the alcohol will evaporate when cooking.i rather think it's the australian culture who struggles sometimes when to draw the line.because the binge drinking is such a problem here,we get cautioned a lot.i personally would though be careful when it comes to desserts(uncooked ones)and small children.so i say keep deglazing with alcohol and enjoy a glass on the side too.
